There have been some big developments in the solar energy sector in Western Colorado — literally!
Probably the biggest news is that Guzman Energy’s Garnet Mesa solar project in southern Delta County has finally been approved. It received unanimous approval from the Delta County Commissioners on August 16. This is the same project which had previously failed to win approval a few months earlier.
When completed, the Garnet Mesa project will provide enough energy to power 18,000 homes. The Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA), the energy co-op which provides power to the Delta/Montrose region, will buy a significant portion of the energy produced by the project, with Guzman prepared to offtake the remainder to power other wholesale clients.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Mesa County, the County Commissioners have approved a project by SolarGen which will be a 48-megawatt facility located on 150 acres east of Grand Junction Regional Airport.
