How can we fix Colorado’s upside-down tax code?
As you know grassroots democracy is a big part of Western Colorado Alliance’s mission, and we recognize that the relationship between money and democracy often creates roadblocks for the kind of healthy, safe and self-reliant communities we wish to see in Western Colorado. For the last two years, our Alliance has been working with a group of organizations and individuals from across the state to come up with commonsense solutions to solve the challenge of how we build up and improve public investments in our communities. This group, Vision 2020, is committed to updating Colorado’s outdated tax code so that Coloradans can better invest in the things that make our state a great place to live like schools, roads, libraries, and open spaces.
Vision 2020 believes that the ballot process is an important way we, as residents of the state, can build the communities we want. Unfortunately, too often the ballot process is controlled by a few rather than tapping into the power of the many. Vision 2020 seeks to improve the process by having lots of voices weigh in on the best options for making changes to the way invest in ourselves.
As part of this effort, we are asking for your input which will help shape a ballot measure that updates Colorado’s outdated tax code. Sharing your input is easy. It takes about 15 minutes or less to provide your impressions and explain your thinking using Vision 2020’s digital input tool. Jeriel joined the Western Colorado Alliance staff in February 2017 (back when we were still Western Colorado Congress), but you may remember her as our Canvass Director for the successful Minimum Wage ballot initiative in 2016! In her young career, Jeriel has worked with engaged citizens across Colorado on issues ranging from veterans' affairs, healthcare and women’s rights. Jeriel has called Grand Junction and the Western Slope home for 16 years, and enjoys running, hiking, biking and crafting with her daughter Emma.
