Job Description: Western Colorado Alliance for Community Action is seeking a part-time membership coordinator to join our team. Designed for 20 hours a week with a flexible but set schedule.  Position based in Grand Junction, CO. 

About Western Colorado Alliance: Formed in 1980, the Western Colorado Alliance for Community Action brings people together to build grassroots power through community organizing and leadership development. We believe that right now, today, we have the ability and opportunity to create a future where engaged local voices are leading communities across Western Colorado that are healthy, just and self-reliant. We work on many issues in our area, ranging from clean and renewable energy, to local food and agriculture, to social justice, and natural resource and public land conservation.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Maintain the membership records, ensuring member and donor information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Generate reports for organizers, affiliate groups, Development and Communications team, and the Board.
  • Process and enter donations into database on a weekly basis.
  • Work with staff team to build and maintain the membership by planning annual membership drive activities, generating renewal reminders, acknowledgement letters and membership related other mailings.
  • Work with the Development and Communications team to support overall membership and fundraising efforts, including annual events.
  • Work with organizers to build, engage, and retain membership in their assigned counties.
  • Be available during office hours to answer the phone and greet visitors. 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Alliance’s membership renewal system by sending first and second renewal letters and coordinating calls to non-major donors on a monthly basis. Coordinate renewal system with Dev-Com team so monthly lists are reviewed for possible upgrades before initial contact.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Alliance and affiliate group membership chairs/coordinators and provide them with updated membership lists on a monthly basis so that follow-up calls can be made to non-renewals.
  • Coordinate new member welcome activities such as creating and sending new member packets, welcome and orientation calls, connection to campaigns and affiliate groups, and in-person meetings.
  • Enter all new contact lists into the database.
  • Perform routine maintenance of database records (deduping, cleaning up bad addresses and emails) and update the database’s functionality as needed.
  • Produce reports and mailing lists from the database, and mail-merge letters and mailings, as requested by other staff.
  • Support fundraising efforts by generating donor lists, prospect lists, analyzing giving patterns, merge letters and assemble mailings, call donors, and other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Commitment to Western Colorado Alliance’s issues and values.
  • Ability to get along well with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently, think strategically and be organized in a fast paced working environment.
  • Desire to seek out and learn from feedback.
  • Strong speaking and writing skills.
  • Proficient use of computers and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • First-hand experience of western Colorado, and a good understanding of the area’s culture and issues.
  • Experience working for a nonprofit organization working for social change, on environmental issues, or on a political campaign.
  • Experience in communications or fundraising.

Salary and Benefits: Starting salary $18k-$20k, depending on experience. Benefits include opting into group health insurance and two weeks’ vacation.

About the author

Arn's career includes more than 35 years of experience in broadcast media, online advertising and branding in both Western Colorado and New York City. He is a four-time Colorado Broadcast Award winner and has also won multiple Colorado Press Association Awards. Arn also teaches Film Expression at the college level. He lives with a dramatic pit bull and a grandiose cat and enjoys painting, animating, and exploring cinema in his spare time.
