Speak up for San Juan Wilderness

San Juan MtnsLast week, US Congressman Scott Tipton completed a whirlwind tour of Town Hall meetings across the Western Slope. While in Ouray County, WCC and friends turned out in force to reiterate our support for the San Juan Wilderness Act, which would protect 61,765 acres of wild lands in southwestern Colorado. See a map of the proposed wilderness here!

Rep. Tipton recently supported the Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Bill, proving that he will sponsor public land protection.  Through years of negotiations and work with local stakeholders, the San Juan Wilderness Act is a sound proposal with a broad range of support from the entire region.  The Act is beneficial to both our human and natural communities and would:

  • Protect regional watershed and water supplies
  • Support local business and regional economies
  • Support  wildlife habitat and fishing and hunting opportunities
  • Protect back-country recreation

The Act is already supported by both Senators Udall and Bennet.  Help seize the momentum and encourage Rep. Tipton to become the House sponsor today!
