For awhile now, we’ve been telling you about our “deep listening” efforts in Western Colorado. But I wanted to show you just how easy and rewarding it is! So with help from a couple of our intrepid volunteers, I put together this video showing what a deep listening session looks like, the kind of positive response we’ve been getting, and well, just how fun it is!
I hope you’ll take five minutes and watch this video — then sign up for one of the nine deep listening shifts we have coming up this month. These shifts are short and easy. You’ll always be teamed up and never alone while with us! This is a great way to help heal some of the divisions we all feel right now, and to get to know your neighbors better. Here are sign-up links for the shifts, divided by county.
MONTROSE COUNTY
GARFIELD COUNTY
MESA COUNTY
We’ll contact you prior to the shift with meeting location, and organizers will be available at the meeting location an hour in advance to offer any last-minute training.
We hope you’ll join us! This is some of the most important work we can be doing right now on the Western Slope, and we want to offer you this opportunity to be a part of it!
Bianca Diaz hails from northeast Florida, and brings a background in volunteer management, activism, and community building. She worked in the procurement world for a few years before making the big leap to move out west. She landed a position as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Colorado Canyons Association and the Bureau of Land Management to connect youth and families to the three National Conservation Areas here on the Western Slope. During her year of service, she realized that helping people and working to solve the root causes of our most pressing social issues was her true passion. Off the clock, she loves reading random Wikipedia articles, listening to music, taking care of her worm compost bins, walking her dog, and stargazing!
